Virtual Earth – 3DVIA

October 19th, 2007 Mick Comments off

Dassault Systèmes and Microsoft have recently announced the release of a Technology Preview of Microsoft Virtual Earth – 3DVIA, a web-application which allows you to create 3D models, such as buildings and other structures and share them through Microsoft Virtual Earth.

Details about the technology preview and download link is available at

http://maps.live.com/Help/en-us/VE3DVIADownload.htm

Details and a download link for Virtual Earth is available at

http://maps.live.com/Help/en-us/View3DInstall.htm

A comprehensive set of tutorials are provided to help you get the most out of Virtual Earth – 3DVIA. To create a model you simply start with 2D shapes such as lines, rectangles and cirlces and pull these shapes into 3D boxes and cylinders, combining them to make the 3D models of houses or other buildings. Colours and textures can be applied to the models to achieve a more realistic finish.

When you’ve finished creating your model you can publish it to one of you Live Search Maps collections by simply using the publish button and signing in with your Windows Live ID.

Dassault Systèmes integrates NVIDIA technology into CATIA

October 2nd, 2006 Mick Comments off

Dassault recently announced the integration of NVIDIA CgFX technology into CATIA V5.

This allows designers using CATIA access to advanced visualization capabilities in 3D, creating a seamless engineering and design environment, to increase productivity and reduce product development costs.

Our customers need to be able to collect and visualize information from multiple sources, to make effective business decisions. Real-time 3D visualization allows our customers to act at any stage of a project and review products virtually. Before this required a physical prototype,” outlines Philippe Laufer, project coordination leader for CATIA Research & Development.

“CgFX in Catia V5 delivers advanced interactive rendering by using the workstation’s graphics processing unit (GPU),” explains Jeff Brown, general manager of NVIDIA Professional Solution Group. “With Cg integration, Dassault Systèmes delivers interactive rendering into the PLM environment”.
