Adobe Share

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Adobe have recently announced on on-line document sharing service called Adobe Share.

The easy to use web-based service is provided through the type of “slick” User Interface we’re coming to expect from Adobe. It allows you to upload and share files. You can send a URL for the file to a selected number of users, post the link to the URL on a web-site or embed the code for previewing the file in a web page. Access to the document(s) can be restricted to specified recipients or made public. PDF, JPG GIF and PNG files can be previewed in a web browser before being downloaded.

As an example, here’s the url to a shared copy of the Adobe Share User Guide.

https://share.adobe.com/adc/document.do?docid=af270d07-6e16-11dc-b75f-151d3f6d9313

Currently in Beta, the service offers 1Gb storage space.

Adobe purchase Buzzword

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Adobe recently announced their intention to acquire Virtual Ubiquity, the developers of the on-line word processor Buzzword and joins the ranks of Google who have a similar on-line word processing capability with Google Documents.

Buzzword is built with Adobe Flex software and runs in the Adobe Flash player. The application will also run on Adobe AIR an environment which enables the ability to work with both hosted (online) documents and local (offline) documents.

Adobe, helpfully, provide a FAQ on the acquisition at

Adobe Acrobat 3D (version 8)

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

I recently obtained a preview copy of Acrobat 3D which is currently (Apr 2) available from Adobe Labs

Adobe® Acrobat® 3D Version 8 software empowers CAD, CAM, and CAE application users to rapidly convert virtually any CAD file into highly compressed, more secure, ubiquitous PDF files that can be used by customers, suppliers, and co-workers to quickly and easily review and mark up 3D designs with free Adobe Reader® software. The same PDF can also be leveraged by manufacturers for downstream CAD, CAM or CAE based processes without having to buy expensive CAD translators

Incorporating technology acquired from TTF (Trade and Technologies France), Acrobat® 3D Version 8 can import data from a number of CAD systems and export the 3D content to PRC, an intelligent, high-compression format that can preserve precise data and a high-level of accuracy.

Supported 3D Formats
AllFiles

Other programs that came along with Acrobat 3D v8 include:

Acrobat 8 Distiller
Acrobat 3D Version 8 Toolkit
Acrobat LiveCycle Designer 8.0

Acrobat 3D, Sample Web Page

All in all a powerful collection of utilities that provide a user with all they need to create documentation associated with their design process.

Adobe Document Protection

Friday, November 17th, 2006

Extensions to LiveCycle Policy Server (http://www.adobe.com/products/server/policy/), from Adobe, extends document protection and control to files created with CATIA v5.

This software enables you to apply rights management policies directly at the document level, so you can control who has access to the information and what the person can do with it. Most importantly, you can update or revoke these access and usage rights at any time, even if the document has been distributed outside the organization, so you can exchange your most sensitive and valued information with greater confidence and protect regulated information while collaborating in a global environment.
