XML office doc format

June 9th, 2005

Microsoft is making XML the default format for MS Office.

  1. The zip compressed XML file size claims to be 50 to 75% smaller !!!!
  2. 3rd party apps will have to upgrade to work with these new formats. Could be some work for design-tables, bend tables etc.
  3. Widely available schemas for this open format will help competitors like WordPerfect & openOffice :-)

Wondering how much time it will take CAD industry to adopt to open data format like this !.
